Frequently Asked Questions
Percentage increase shows how much a value grew relative to its original size. Percent change is a broader term that can be positive (increase) or negative (decrease), showing the signed relative change between two values.
Reverse percentage finds the original value when you know a percentage of it. For example, if 75 is 25% of a number, the original is 300. Enter the part (75) and the percentage (25%) to find the total.
Percentage difference is a symmetric measure that compares two values using their average as the base. It is different from percent change, which uses the first value as the base. Percentage difference is always positive.
Enter the total amount and number of people to split evenly. Optionally set a tip percentage and specify unequal shares. The calculator shows each person's share including tip.
Markup mode calculates the selling price based on the cost price plus a markup percentage. For example, a $50 item with 40% markup sells for $70. It also shows the profit margin percentage.
Markup is the percentage added to the cost price. Margin is the percentage of the selling price that is profit. A 40% markup equals approximately 28.6% margin, not 40%. The calculator shows both for clarity.
